if I want to run a VM, what one works best with jaws? I've never done this before but am thinking about trying windows 10 in one before I upgrade a second time.
VM?
It's not really a matter of what VM, virtual machine, works with jaws but what software. VMWare workstation works, as does VMWare player. I think the issue with getting windows 10 in a VM however is first you'd need a valid product key, and also does your machine have the strength to run a VM at all. Remember, you have to split your processor and ram between the host and guest operating systems.
I have 8 GB of ram now. I can upgrade to 16 if need be. third gen Core I5. I would test it as a Windows insider
You could do a dual boot as well.
If you are trying to avoid the problems Windows 10 is giving you, this won't solved them.
Seems to me the best solution is to take your computer over to the Microsoft store and let them install it for you.
Not the VM, but Windows 10.
You have a couple computers. Have one done and see how it goes.
Running a VM means you will have to purchase Windows 10 to get the valid product key as well.
I know how to do the upgrade and feel comfortable doing that on my own. I don't want a dual boot config. I also don't want windows 10 on any of my boxes as an upgrade. How would a blind person choose between which OS to run in a dual boot config anyway? I said I wanted to be an insider. I don't need to purchase windows 10 as insiders have a product key given to them by MS.
If I run it as a VM, my windows 7 wont' be gone. No, I don't want Windows 10 on any of my computers. I tried it once and didn't like it. I'm willing to give it another shot but want to do so without losing windows 7 on any of my devices. Best way to do that as I see it is to run a VM as a Windows 10 insider with Jaws17 beta. I'd have the best of both worlds then.
If I grow to like it before July of next year, then I'll upgrade Windows 7. I mean surely running a Vm is cheaper than buying another computer just to try 10 on.
You have to buy VMWare workstation, when the upgrade to win 10 is free. You keep stating how you do not like it, but never give reasons to why. Maybe you like 7, and I can understand that, but just using a blanket statement that you don't like it doesn't really explain much. Also, the inside r program works slightly different now, I think you have to be running 10 to enroll in it now if I've read stuff right. It is possible to run a VM with 8 gb of ram, but your processor may be the main bottleneck for you. I'm thinking you have a dual core, and that will just be very slow, making you attack 10 all the more, when it is your computer's limitations, not windows.
Also, why bother with an OS you don't like period?
As an insider with screen readers, you'll run in to compatible issues, because sometimes the new stuff doesn't have screen reader support. What good will that be for you?
It isn't working, because your screen reader doesn't support it, so no good at all on your computer.
Seems a waste of resources?
Speaking of Jaws 17. It really hasn't changed the operation of Windows 10 yet. FS said it was ready on July 1ST, so hasn't made any improvements for Windows 10 specificly, only added some features so far to make web pages that are shared, or have the newer formatting work.
I'm running the beta, and can see nothing better Windows 10 wise that the last 16 didn't have.
Maybe in the next, they'll have some specific Windows 10 improvements.
Here's the page on the insider program.

just little jaws annoyances mostly. yeah, it is a dual core laptop, so that probably wouldnt' be powerful enough. It was a thought.
I don't like that when I search for something in the start menu there is no way to have jaws tell you if it is a website that will open or your ap that will open. I'cve had issues trying to w sign I into a a Microsoft account too. the constent ta task switching announcing. I know it works and I can ac access the desktop so th therefor I can launch programs from there. I also wanted to be able to use the modern apps such as news and weather and have it just work. Now that all will come in time, it isn't here yet. The most annoying thing I've found is that there is no way from the start menu to tel which is an app or program and which is a website that will search for the information you type in. Its nothing that cant be worked around, I am well aware of this fact. its just stuff I decided I didn't want to deal with on any box, period.
Actually, 17 has fixed that problem, at least for me. I can see what things are programs, shortcuts Microsoft apps, that kind of thing. This is why I tend to use Jaws and NVDA together, using each to their own strengths.
another option (and this may be the best one yet...) I've upgraded my parenst boxes all to 10. run jaws demo on one of them. play with it a lil bit. they wouldn't mind if I did that. see how I like it. if good, upgrade them all at once.
I don't have any of these issues.
These are really small issues however. Smile.
If you want to search, search online. Apps need to be asked for properly to get them.
I could go down and select even with 16.
I could have told start not to search on the browser. at least I believe that's one option you can turn off. Wayne when I'd search for sound forge, sound forge (my program) wasn't the only thing to come up under the start menu
A good search should be a good search. It should show several results.
You choose what you need.
Yes I understand that, but jaws never indicated what I needed. good to know this is finally fixed in Jaws17.
I didn't have the problem with 16, but okay.
Just my opinion.
Everything isn't for everyone.
The thing, or question I have, is why go through so much when you don't like Windows 10 and 7 is working just fine for you?
Use 7 and relax?
because while I know I wont like to use 10 right now, stuff is coming out that I want to be able to take advantage of. like the modern app support. That excites me.
So wait until you know it is working.
That is as simple as asking.
You run a VM, you have to purchase Windows 10, or purchase a second computer, all because you are interested, but have some personal gripes. Smile.
Just install it and deal already. hahaha.
It is just odd to me for someone to put so much trouble in to something they hate?
I don't hate. that's a strong word.
I don't love either.
plus VM's are just something I've been curious about for a while.
Most likely i'll just put it on my parenst puter and play once in a while until I gro to like it.
So say that, not that you want a VM because Windows 10 sucks balls. Lol
